Great Bike - Great PriceThe Vilano Drift keeps it simple, there's no complicated gears to deal with. Just hop on and go. The hand crafted sturdy steel frame can handle the abuse of urban commuting. The 2012 improves on last years model with: flip-flop rear hub for either fixed gear (cog) or singlespeed (freehwheel) configuration, an all new riser bar for comfort (and clearance for bar spins), and new hi-flange hubs for strength.

After hearing everyone's negative reviews on this bike I thought I would leave my own. I bought a Vilano Drift around 3 years ago. After taking it to get assembled at the bike shop and hearing the snob behind the counter tell me that this bike was crap, I decided I would ride this bike like I stole it and use it as a beater. That was over 3 years ago. I put on an average of 75-100 miles a month on this bike (exluding winter months) and have really had no major problems. The seat took a bit to get used to but I was also used to big cushy mountain bike and cruiser seats. After a week of "taint" pain it was no problem at all. I did end up having to replace the bottom bracket after a year and a half of serious riding and a halfhearted attempt at fgfs but the Vilano Drift of 3 years ago didnt come with a sealed bb. It was the old cup and ball bearing dealy. This was my first fixed gear bike and this bike caused me to fall in love with fixed gear riding. I made some small improvements (grips, tires, pedals and straps) but other than that I thought the stock was pretty decent. If your looking for a bike to compete in serious races or ride 100+ miles a week, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a first fixed gear or a beater/commuter, I recommend this bike. After 3 years I decided to build myself a fixed gear from the ground up and sell my Vilano. I was sad to see her go but was glad to hopefully pass on my love of riding fixed to someone else.

I gave it two stars because I am only using the frame, all the other original parts have been replaced with better parts. I use my bike as my main mode of transportation, I ride rain or shine, winter or summer. On a slow day of commuting I will travel about 10-12 miles. My old bike frame was showing the wears of time and road salt so I opted for a new frame. Going in I knew that the bike was on the cheap side and that the components weren't the best, but seeing how I was mostly looking for a frame I went for it. For the good lets say the frame came in a great color, no dings, dents, or scratches. It is a light frame and is sturdy.After assembling the bike with the original components and giving it a good test ride, the crank was smooth, and it handled fine. From there it's down hill. The front rim came bent, so it was not used in the initial ride. Brakes are alright, not amazing but they will stop you, although they are hard to keep straightened. The seat was super uncomfortable, that lasted one ride and was switched with my old saddle. The seat post clamp would not keep the seat locked in postion, after making a commute I found the seat angled up making the ride uncomfortable, I had to carry an allen wrench in my bag to level the seat after every ride.To date I have replaced basically everything off the bike with old parts from my previous bike or that I had laying around. If you are the type to ride it every so often I would not hesitate to buy it. Its a great starter bike to see if its the lifestyle for you. If you are a serious commuter and have lots of spare parts like I do I would still consider it. However if you are a serious commuter and don't have lots of parts buy a higher end bike. You'll come out the same if you buy this bike for all upgrades that you will be doing to it.
