Product Description
At Retrospec Bicycles we take our wheels very seriously. Wheel engineering starts at the core. Retrospec Beta Series bikes feature silky smooth KT hubs with a flip-flop hub in the rear. The hub comes pre-assembled with a fixed-gear cog and a freewheel, so it's up to you if you want to ride it fixed-gear or coast like you would on a regular bike. Front and rear wheels come with 32 spokes and are built with lightweight 41mm Super Deep-V rims. This is the perfect size rim. Deep enough for optimum performance, and any deeper is just too heavy. All wheels come with a resilient nylon rim tape and CST Super-HP tubes and tires (700x23c), in our opinion the best tires on earth. Remarkable Frame Geometrics. Bar-spin clearance, no toe-overlap, and flat top tube—Retrospec is the only bicycle company in the world that can make these three claims about one frame! All Beta Series bicycles have bar-spin clearance on all size frames (41-60cm). If you aren’t tricking out on your fixie now, you probably will some day soon because your new Retrospec fixie makes it easy and fun. Also, the frame is uniquely designed to avoid any chance of a toe overlap. The front wheel is positioned with exactly enough distance so that you don’t have to worry about rubbing up on the toe clips when your strapped in. All of our bicycles size 49cm and larger come with a flat top tube for a traditional track-style frame.

[EDITTED OCTOBER 9TH]I love riding fixie and I love the look of the bike. It's super light and fast, and attracts lots of attention. Awesome! But...When I received the bike, the front fork didn't fit. I took pictures and emailed Retrospec requesting a new fork.The response was:"It looks like this got slightly bent during shipping. A bike shop can fix this very easily. You may want to take it in to one. Let us know if this solves the problem."So I guess they wanted me to spend money my money fixing their problem?Anyways, I took it to my college bike shop were we can work on our own bikes for free. Under the recommendation and consensus of the local bike experts, I filed down the part was wasn't fitting. I thought it was fixed (so I emailed them back and said "fixed!"The bike never would stay upright when I took my hands off the handle bars. It took me awhile to realize that it wasn't me - I had some friends try it out. I could lean way far to one side to compensate, but it would only work for a few seconds before it would lean over way too far. I don't know what caused it, but it probably had something to do with the steering column.Furthermore, the tires that came on it were so cheap that within a month of very short rides they were already falling apart.All of this together bothered me enough that I decided to get rid of it.I'm now riding my friends road bike, but I'll ride a fixie again someday, but I cannot buy from Retrospec again. I did not feel comfortable requesting anything after riding it for a month. If they would have just sent me a new fork to begin with, everything might have been fine.Hope this story is somewhat helpful in making your decision.

I've been meaning to get a fixed gear bike for some time now and some friends recommended Retrospec as a starter fixie. I received my Retrospec bike last week and it arrived almost completely assembled and came with the proper tools to add the pedals, handlebar, front wheel, and saddle. It took about an hour to put together since it didn't come with instructions. I brought it to a local bike shop to look it over and they said it seemed like a great bike for a great price. I love the color and the bike rides rather smoothly. Riding both freewheel and fixed gear feels comfortable. Coming from a mountain bike, this bike is pretty light (about 28 pounts) and can easily be mounted on a rack. Overall a very solid bike!

I just recently purchased a Retrospec El Diablo fixie and I'm pleased to say I'm incredibly happy with my purchase. When I received the bike, the box seemed to have been beaten up on the way but there was no damage done to the bike whatsoever. The only problem I ran into was that it was missing a screw that attaches the handle bars onto the bike. This wasn't a big deal, I was still able to ride, I just had to be more cautious when doing so. I decided to contact the company about this and they seemed to be more than happy to send me a new screw. I live in Chicago where it's mostly flat terrain and mainly use this bike for commuting purposeses. It's safe to say, this bike is one of the best rides I've ever owned. I've also gotten a chance to take it onto more hilly areas and I still enjoy the ride. Sure it's a little bit of a workout, but that's expected when riding a bike. I personally find it more enjoying when you're bombing a hill with this fixie and pedaling hard to keep up, versus cruising down a hill. It gives you less to worry about (what gear you're on) and more time to enjoy the whole ride. The frame seems super solid and light and the deep-v wheels give it that super smooth ride. I couldn't be more happier about this bike and I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a fixie, or just another bike to add to their collection. I'm definitely going to be picking up another ride from these guys soon!
