A New Way to Bike

This bike really answered my needs - 5 star for matching my expectations.I have a 9 mile commute each way. I wanted a bike that will let me get to work and back faster than my car, not too sweaty and not too tired. This bike does it. It also looks like a bike and not a motorcycle and not dorky.My main reason for not riding to work before was that you get there sweaty, it takes you extra time to put bike clothes then change to work clothes and you're not looking for the effort on some days. Then, you ride home, the wife hands you the kids while you're still gasping for air. The bike has a pretty strong engine (500W) which is actually enough to avoid paddling altogether if you wish to do so. You can paddle as hard as you want for exercise.The bike is really fun to ride - an OK shock absorber and fat tires make the ride mostly smooth and the speed allows you to cruise past people which is fun too.Pros:* Really good build quality. Things are in the right place and work and look good.* Rides nice - mountain-style build makes it easy for commuting over road bumps, pot holes and curbs.* Value to cost - I expect to recover the cost of the bike in under 5 months of riding it.* Faster than my car - at over 20mph on the bike I can beat my car by going through shorter routes and avoid traffic.* Engine is super quiet - you can cycle past the riders in full gear and let them think you're on a regular bike* Engine is not connected to the gear so you can be on any gear when starting from a full stop* Really fast - Can go 20+ mph consistently on flats and very slight up-hill. On steeper hill drops to 10-12 mph without paddle.* Can go 25 miles on full throttle on one charge (but barely)Cons:* Rear light (on battery) turns on when riding in the rain and takes some time to turn off (until battery dries up)* Gear switch for back-wheel gear is on the left handle and feels opposite to what you expect. Takes a bit of getting used to* Cannot install a rack in the back (Prodeco said they're planning on a new rack but haven't seen it yet). This means I'm forced to have a backpack.* The handlebar is very curved. Any accessories you put on the bar tries to slide to the sides (away from the middle)* Back break is not easy to align due to the engine placement behind it on the wheel.Bike comes mostly ready after delivery but I had to tune the breaks as they either shifted in delivery or were not properly aligned.Overall - while the bike is not perfect - it is perfect for the price. If you're commuting to work and want a car alternative without requiring full gym session each way then this is bike is a perfect solution for it.

The only frawbacks are the weight of the bicycle,the height of the center bar, and battery use. However, the weight makes it a strong frame and that can be good. I am 5'10" and can barely stand over the center bar. This makes it a little difficult to mount/dismount. The power is what was expected but installoing and removing the battery has been somewhat difficult, and that needs to be improved. However, it is great to be able to remove the battery for charging, storing or replacing.Every thing else is great and intelligently designed. Everyone who has seen it has been impressed by it's features. The bike is very comfortaable to ride once it is in motion. I have ridden other electric bikes, and none have the power or endurance that this one has. I am very glad that I have it, and expect to get a lot of use from it. A final note- the bike came well assembled and it was easy to complete the assembly, especially with all the included tools.

Ok, so this bike isn't exactly a rough n' ready mountain bike, it's more along the line of a high-end commuter bike that could do as a mountain bike if need be but it's not designed to handle that kind of pressure. The best function for this bike is to get into shape, but the battery assist is there to help you up those steep hills. So far I have rode this bike twice, once on a 1 1/2 hour ride, and the next on a three hour ride. After being out of shape for a while, I must say I was impressed with the battery assist. It works much like a handlebar throttle on a motorcycle. You simply push the button in, grab the handle and twist your wrist down and away you go! Combining it with pedaling and you can get some SERIOUS SPEED going, especially down hill! And as far as battery life is concerned, with a rider contingent of me being nearly 300lbs, I got to say this was most impressive! I bet I can get at least 25 miles with only light pedaling which means this bike is PERFECT if you're thinking of doing your minor shopping! I'm getting a bike trailer connection with a good ice chest and will be able to do my shopping. Trips to the grocery store in a gas powered car will be a thing of the past and that means eventually this bike PAYS FOR ITSELF!As far as assembly is concerned, right out of the box the bike is fine tuned and the battery was fully charged. Other than the pain in the butt packing tape and foam, there was some very MINOR assembly. I had to put the handlebars together. Simple. Remove the plastic cover on the top (sit on the bike and look directly at the handlebars) and remove that, get the allen wrench tool and get it tightened down and adjusted. Voila!One thing bothers me though. You'd think a high end bike like this would come with a better seat. Instead you get one of those cheap hard ones that make you feel like you're sitting on a cactus. I had to go buy a new one for over 60$! A minor nag, I assure you, but bike companies by now should know better and they need to completely do away with these types of seats because people have suffered permanent injury from these hard things!Other than those few minor gripes I am THRILLED! Getting back on a bike after a few years has been a shot in the arm! Having the wind in my face, the sun on my back, my heart going bananas, sweat pouring down my face is so exhilarating and fun! I'm just wondering where to get a new battery when this one wears out...
